CFUW/CARE Canada Book Club Announcement!
The votes are in, have been counted and verified and we are
pleased to announce that by popular demand Tears of the
Desert: A Memoir of Survival in Darfur, by Halima
Bashir has been chosen by CFUW members as the book of choice for
the CFUW/CARE Canada pilot book club launching in January 2010.
Raw and riveting, Tears of the Desert is more than just
a memoir-it is Halima Bashir's global call to action. In this
harrowing and heartbreaking account, Bashir sheds light on the
hundreds of thousands of innocent lives being eradicated in what
has surely become the most terrifying genocide of the twenty-first
century.
Thank you to all members who took part in the voting and who
have already signed-up to our book club. Topic guides, feedback
forms and book club information will be circulated in mid January
2010. We're looking forward to a great debate on this inspiring
book!
For those who have not yet signed-up, it's not too
late. Take part in this debate with thousands of readers
across Canada and explore the struggles and successes of women in
the developing world. Each feature book will be accompanied by the
unique perspective of CARE staff who work in the field, there will
also be an opportunity for readers to post their comments online
and interact with the virtual community.
