The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)
has supported graduate study, literacy and the creative arts
through awards and grants since its founding in 1919.
In 1921, the 12 Clubs of the Federation awarded the first CFUW
Travelling Fellowship of $1000. Since then CFUW has spent more than
$1,000,000 on the Fellowships, Grants and Awards that it offers
annually to Canadian women for post-graduate study.

The CFUW Charitable Trust, set up in 1976, receives donations
and supports this program. The Trust administers funds for:
- Graduate Awards and Fellowships
- An annual CFUW Creative Music Award through the Banff Centre in
Alberta
- Its contribution to the Read-Up-On-It program at Library and
Archives Canada.
CFUW Clubs, individual Club members and non-members support the
Trust. Bequests and memorial gifts of both cash and stock also
increase Trust funds. The Trust is a registered charity and issues
receipts for income tax purposes.
