National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women: CFUW’s SDG Series, Vigils and Polytechnique Commemorative Award
This December 6, 2017, the Canadian Federation of University Women commemorates and honours the lives of victims of gender-based violence and stand in solidarity with all women experiencing violence, abuse and harassment.
For this occasion, CFUW continues the series on significant days to facilitate the conversation about the Sustainable Development Goals. “We believe the elimination of violence can only be realized with the understanding that aggression against one woman is abuse against all women. The individual cannot be separated from the community and therefore national epidemics of violence have a global impact" says Cheryl Hayles, V.P. International Relations. Consult the December 6 edition of the SDG series here.
On the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against women, CFUW clubs and members across Canada will be observing moments of silence as well as organizing or joining vigils. Consult our Facebook page for more details on club vigils: https://www.facebook.com/cfuw.fcfdu/
Clubs also continue to raise money for the CFUW École Polytechnique commemorative award. This award aims to commemorate the lives of the fourteen women students murdered on December 6, 1989, by encouraging women to pursue graduate studies relevant to advancing the status of women. Deadline for application December 8, 2017. Click here for more details.
