Save the Gun Registry!

Bill C-391 proposes to abolish the long gun registry and
elimiate the existing records of 7 million registered guns. Rifles
and shotguns are the firearms most often used to kill women and
children in domestic violence. 88% of Canadian women killed with
guns are killed with a shotgun or rifle. The law is working;
gun-related spousal homicides are down 50%
Call, email and write your MP to share your support for the gun
registry. Abolishing the registry will endager public safety and
rearm domestic violence. To find your MP

Gender and Peace Building
Rape is a horrifying weapon of war.
The numbers tell us that it is also a common occurrence in modern
conflict, where in the words of a seasoned peacekeeper, it is now
"more dangerous to be a woman than to be a soldier". CFUW is
actively engaging with partner organizations and Members of
Parliament to encourage Canada to take leadership in ending sexual
violence in conflict and supporting women who are working to build
peace in their communities.
How you can help:
- Learn more about sexual violence in war and
women's role peacebuilding.
- Tell your MP that Canada should live up to its
international commitments under United Nations Security Council
Resolutions 1325 and 1820.
- Encourage electronics manufacturers to commit
to not purchasing coltan from conflict zones where rebel groups use
sexual violence to subdue local populations and maintain control
over the lucrative mines.
